It is incredible to think that sometimes we miss the opportunity to go somewhere just because we believe in silly stereotypes. When I decided to travel to Naples I booked the flight without even having a clue where exactly the city was located! I looked at some photos on Google and voilà! I followed my instincts. Then, I started to plan my trip. While looking for information I found in a vast majority of websites comments about how Naples was not that safe and there was still a lot of hard-core crime over there. I got a little bit scared, to be honest. However, I decided not to let myself being influenced by those comments. I decided to ask my Italians friends about it. Their responses were TOTALLY DIFFERENT. They highly advised me to go and I am so glad I followed their advice.
From my experience, I can tell you that Naples is safe. As a tourist, the only bad thing that can happen to you is to gain weight due to the unbelievable pizza. The thing is that Neapolitans will do everything they can to make you feel at home. I guess it is part of their nature. They are warm, happy and friendly. Making friends over there will take you less than 10 minutes!
Naples is just 1 hour and 30 minutes from the famous Amalfi Coast. I had the opportunity to visit beautiful Positano. Though it is highly touristic, it is 100% worth it. I am in love with the colorful houses, the clear turquoise sea, and, of course, limoncello! It was just magic.
Wherever you walk in Naples you are going to end up seeing Mount Vesuvius as part of the landscape and not that far from there, you can find one of the UNESCO world heritage sites: Pompeii. This is a city that was destroyed during the volcano’s eruption more than a thousand years ago. Today, not only its ruins remain, but its stateliness as well.
